Privacy & Security
What stays local and what uses the network
Core AI blurring runs locally. Licensing, purchases, support, updates, and optional consented image feedback vary by distribution channel and can use the network.
Core blurring stays on your device
Normal photo, video, and camera workflows run in the local app. Source media is not uploaded for AI blurring.
Purchases depend on your distribution channel
Windows and Mac website builds use smartblur.app for trials, license activation and validation, and checkout through supported payment providers. Microsoft Store purchases and updates are handled by Microsoft.
Feedback is a separate, explicit network service
Support feedback sends the email and message you provide plus app version and entitlement context; website-build feedback can include the saved license key. Optional detection feedback uploads the original image, issue details, and note only after you approve it. Detection reports are deleted within 12 months.
Service logs are redacted and short-lived
Reverse-proxy access logs redact request paths and queries, client IP addresses, and sensitive headers before storage. The remaining operational metadata is retained for no more than 30 days.
The AI ships inside the app
The detection models are bundled with the app, protected on disk, and used by the local processor for core blur workflows.
Face lists use local storage
Pro identity matching and its face list are handled by the local processor and stored on the device where you create them. Protect that device and its files like any sensitive data.
Updates you can trust
Windows and Mac website updates are integrity-checked before installation. Microsoft Store builds update through Microsoft Store.

SmartBlur 2 is a desktop app for Windows and supported Macs that finds and blurs faces, heads, bodies, and license plates in photos and videos. Mac builds require macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon M1–M5. Standard and Pro also process a local webcam and can send the result to compatible apps through SmartBlur Camera in website builds. Pro adds RTSP/RTSPS network cameras and live recording. You can blur any area by hand.
Normal desktop blurring runs on your PC, and source photos, videos, and camera frames are not uploaded for AI blurring. Internet access is used to download the app, activate and periodically validate licenses, handle payments, send feedback, and check for updates. If you choose Report detection issue, SmartBlur uploads the original image only after you explicitly approve it.
Free covers the basics with smaller limits, good for light use. Standard removes the video size limit, detects up to 100 faces at once, and adds Ultra detection, 360-degree detection, manual picking on a photo, local webcam processing, and SmartBlur Camera in supported Windows and Mac website builds. Pro raises the limit to 500 and adds Ultra Super detection, license plate blur, identity-based selection, RTSP/RTSPS input, and live recording. Microsoft Store packages do not include SmartBlur Camera.
Website licenses are Standard at USD $19 (or IDR 149,000) for one year and Pro at USD $49; Indonesian Pro pricing is IDR 599,000 for the first year and currently IDR 399,000 to renew. Website checkout shows the final price.
The app simply drops back to the Free features until you renew — nothing breaks and nothing is deleted. If you renew before it expires, the new year is added on top of your old expiry date, so you never lose paid days. Old lifetime licenses stay lifetime.
Yes. With Standard or Pro and a supported Windows or Mac website build, the processed webcam appears as "SmartBlur Camera" for compatible apps such as Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, and OBS. On Mac, allow the Core Media I/O camera extension and camera access when prompted. Microsoft Store packages do not include SmartBlur Camera. App and organizational camera policies can affect compatibility, so test before a live session.
No software can promise legal compliance on its own. SmartBlur helps a lot — local processing, automatic detection, manual tools — but your organization still owns its policies, reviews, and final decisions about what gets published.
