What is the Virtual Camera?
SmartBlur's virtual camera creates a live video feed with real-time face and body blurring. Other apps see it as a regular webcam — but the video has already been processed by SmartBlur.
Quick Setup
- Open SmartBlur and enable Virtual Camera in the main window.
- In your video conferencing app, select SmartBlur Virtual Camera as your camera.
- That's it — your video feed now has real-time blurring.
App-Specific Setup

- Under Camera, select SmartBlur Virtual Camera.
- The SmartBlur feed appears with blurring applied in real time.

SmartBlur Settings for Virtual Camera
| Setting | Description | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-start | Start virtual camera when SmartBlur launches | Off |
| Camera source | Which physical webcam to use | System default |
| Resolution | Output resolution | 720p |
| Frame rate | Target FPS | 30 fps |
| Blur on startup | Enable blur automatically when virtual camera starts | On |
Performance Tips
- Lower the resolution to 720p if you experience lag on older hardware.
- Close other camera apps — only one app can use a webcam at a time.
- Use GPU acceleration — enable it in SmartBlur Settings for smoother performance.
- Reduce max faces — if you only need to blur 1-2 faces, lowering the face limit improves frame rate.
Troubleshooting
Virtual camera not showing up in other apps:
- Restart SmartBlur and the other app.
- On first install, restart your PC.
- Make sure no other app is using the same physical webcam.
Black screen or no video:
- Check that the correct physical webcam is selected in SmartBlur settings.
- Try switching the camera source and switching back.
Lag or low frame rate:
- Lower the output resolution to 720p.
- Enable GPU acceleration in Settings.
- Reduce the number of simultaneous face detections.
