What is SmartBlur?
SmartBlur is a desktop application for Windows that uses AI to automatically detect and blur faces and bodies in photos, videos, and live webcam feeds.
Does SmartBlur work offline?
Yes. All processing happens on your PC. You only need an internet connection for license validation (which is cached for up to 7 days).
What platforms are supported?
SmartBlur currently supports Windows 10 and later (64-bit). macOS and Linux are not supported at this time.
Is there a free trial?
Yes! SmartBlur offers a 7-day free trial with full features — no watermarks, no credit card required. Each device gets one trial.

What does "lifetime updates" mean?
A lifetime license includes all future software updates at no additional cost. Annual licenses include 1 year of updates — after that, the app continues to work but you won't receive new versions.
Can I use my license on multiple PCs?
Each license has a device limit (typically 1 device). You can deactivate a device and activate on a new one. Multi-seat licenses are available for teams.
How do I renew my annual license?
Visit smartblur.app/renew and enter your license key. After payment, your update period extends by 1 year.
Privacy & Security
Does SmartBlur send my images to a server?
No. All AI processing happens locally on your PC. Images and videos never leave your device.
Does SmartBlur collect personal data?
SmartBlur does not collect, transmit, or store your images, videos, or personal data. License validation sends only your license key and a device fingerprint hash.
What is the device fingerprint?
The device fingerprint is a one-way hash of your hardware IDs. It cannot be reversed to identify you personally. It's used solely to enforce the device activation limit.
Features
Can I choose which faces to blur?
Yes! Pro users can use Selective Blur to click individual faces on/off, and the Staff Gallery to automatically keep known faces visible.
Can SmartBlur blur bodies, not just faces?
Yes. Enable Full Body or Upper Body detection in the Detection settings.
Does it work on live video calls?
Yes. Use the Virtual Camera feature to apply real-time blurring on Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, and other conferencing apps.
What video formats are supported?
SmartBlur supports MP4, AVI, MKV, MOV, and WebM input. Output is available in MP4 (H.264/H.265) and AVI formats.
Troubleshooting
The app is slow — what can I do?
Enable GPU acceleration in Settings, reduce detection sensitivity, and disable body detection if you only need face blurring. See the Troubleshooting guide for more tips.
How do I report a bug?
Email [email protected] with a description of the issue, your Windows version, and the log file from %APPDATA%/SmartBlur/logs/.
