Install SmartBlur on Windows or macOS
Requirements
- A supported 64-bit Windows 10/11 PC, or macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon M1–M5
- Enough free storage for the app, bundled processor, model files, and outputs
- Internet access for initial license/trial activation and update checks
- A webcam only for Webcam mode; network access to a camera only for RTSP mode
Download SmartBlur only from the official download page or an authorized purchase link. Choose the Windows website installer or the signed, notarized, and stapled Apple silicon DMG.
Install on Windows
- Download the current Windows installer from the official SmartBlur website or your authorized purchase link.
- Verify the filename/version and, for a signed release, open Properties → Digital Signatures to inspect the publisher signature.
- Run the installer and follow the destination/start-menu prompts.
- Launch SmartBlur from the Start menu.
- Activate your license or device trial when prompted.
- Wait for the status bar to report that the default model is ready.
- Process a non-sensitive test image using Quick Start.
Do not download SmartBlur from third-party mirrors. If Windows reports an unsigned build, confirm the release source with SmartBlur support before proceeding.
Install on macOS
- Download the SmartBlur 2.1.2 Apple silicon DMG from the official SmartBlur website.
- Open the DMG and drag SmartBlur to Applications.
- Open SmartBlur from Applications. Version 2.1.2 is signed with a Developer ID certificate, notarized by Apple, and stapled for Gatekeeper validation.
- Activate the website license or device trial when prompted.
- Wait for the status bar to report that the default model is ready.
- Process a non-sensitive test image using Quick Start.
If macOS cannot verify the app, remove that copy and download it again from the official page. Do not bypass Gatekeeper for a file from an unknown source.
Camera permission
Webcam mode requires Windows permission for desktop apps to access the camera. Open Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and allow camera access for desktop apps. Close other camera software if the default webcam cannot be opened.
On macOS, SmartBlur asks for Camera permission only when you start a local webcam session. If access was denied, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and allow SmartBlur, then try again.
RTSP mode does not install SmartBlur Camera by itself. It reads the configured network stream into SmartBlur’s Live Camera workspace and, on Pro, can save the processed recording locally.
Set up SmartBlur Camera
SmartBlur Camera output is included in supported Windows and macOS website builds for Standard and Pro. The Microsoft Store package does not include SmartBlur Camera.
On macOS, SmartBlur Camera is a signed Core Media I/O camera extension bundled with SmartBlur 2.1.2. Complete its one-time setup as follows:
- Confirm SmartBlur.app is in Applications, then open it from there.
- Open Live Camera, connect a webcam, and verify that processed frames appear.
- Click Enable SmartBlur Camera. If macOS asks for approval, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, approve SmartBlur Camera, return to SmartBlur, and enable it again. Restart the Mac if macOS explicitly requests it.
- Keep the processed preview running. Quit and reopen QuickTime, Zoom, Teams, OBS, or the other receiving app so it refreshes its camera list, then select SmartBlur Camera.
- Keep monitoring the processed preview throughout the session; detection remains probabilistic.
See Webcam, RTSP & SmartBlur Camera for the full plan, platform, and troubleshooting matrix.
Updates
Eligible Windows and Mac website builds check the SmartBlur update service. Downloaded website updates are integrity-checked before installation, and the signed Mac updater also validates its release signature. Update eligibility depends on the license entitlement. Save work and stop active file/live jobs before installing an update.
Reinstall or repair
- Record the app version and any error shown in Console.
- Stop live sessions and processing jobs.
- Download the fresh official installer or DMG for your platform.
- Install over the existing version or uninstall/reinstall if support recommends it.
- Reopen SmartBlur and verify the model-ready status with a small test image.
The license service uses device activation and an offline entitlement cache. Reinstalling on the same device normally should not be treated as permission to consume another seat; contact support if activation reports a limit unexpectedly.
Uninstall
On Windows, use Settings → Apps → Installed apps → SmartBlur → Uninstall. On macOS, quit SmartBlur, open Applications, and move SmartBlur to the Trash. Removing the application does not automatically delete every source/output folder you selected. Review those folders and securely delete private media according to your retention policy.
